Wilshire Grand; Talles Building West of Chicago

The 73- story os Angeles Wilshire Grand tower will be the tallest building west of Chicago once completed in 2017.  The new tower will replace the old Wilshire Grand, which stood as a downtown icon for more than half a century, closing in 2011.  AC Martin Partners designed the $1 billion , 1,100 foot mixed-use office and hotel tower, thoroughly detailing the design, technology, and innovation of the project.  The street level will be activated by retail and restaurant space, as office space occupies the tower's mid-section and luxury hotel will rest on its upper floors.

The project aims to redefine high-rise hotels with its unique 70th floor sky lobby as well as rooftop entertainment and dining.  The hotel will also feature 900 state-of-the-art four-star hotel rooms.  The tower itself containing many unique features, including a concrete-reinforced hardened elevator shaft that allows elevators to function during fire evacuation.  The curtain of glass peaks above the top story creating a glowing glass pediment and spire.
