Shoreham Street; Industrial Minimalism

English Architects Project Orange took on an important task of rehabilitating an old industrial building in Shoreham, England that locals view as a very important building in their community worth saving.  192 Shoreham Street is a Victorian industrial brick building that sits at the edge of the Cultural Industries Quarter Conservation Area of Sheffield.

The completed project celebrates the industrial heritage as well as giving it relevance with a new vibrant context.  The base of the building is occupied by a desirable double height restaurant/bar within the original shell, topped by duplex studio office units above in the new contemporary building extension.  The complementary addition replaces the original pitched roof, and its form is modeled after the industrial roofscapes that used to dominate the neighborhood.  The new building symbolizes the area's past and its aspirations for the future.
