New Abu Dhabi Gateway

Abu Dhabi's new gateway comes by way of a new Midfield Terminal Complex at Abu Dhabi International Airport.  Designed by Kohn Pederson Fox Associates (KPF), the terminal creates large, unimpeded internal zones that will enhance the passenger experience, and can accommodate long-term adaptability to industry demands.

Ground works are ready and officials are preparing to appoint a contractor to commence work on the construction of the terminal complex.  The decision to approve the terminal complex is critical to consolidate Abu Dhabi's position as a transport hub and tourist destination.  the terminal complex is designed to form part of a memorable experience for the millions of passengers who will use it each year.

Beautifully engineered, long-span arches support a soaring roof and reach 50 meters at their highest point.  Conversely, the internal scale of the departure hall endows the building with an openness that allows for meaningful connectivity between the outdoor landscaping and the indoor civic space.  The terminal complex is designed to serve Abu Dhabi and Etihad Airways well into the 21st century and act as a key driver for the UAE's economy and growth for decades to come.  Integral to Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, a framework for the Emirate's future development and projected population growth, the ultimate capacity will exceed 50 million travelers and 2 million tons of cargo per year.
