Japanese FlatIron

Designed by Eastern Design Studio in Japan, this Flatiron inspired building is located in the district of Youkaich in Shiga Prefecture.  The triangular residential complex conforms to the dimensions and boundaries of the site in the most literal and direct way.  Its shape transitions into true geometric forms providing an element of fluidity and substance.

The 13 meter high structure features 7 apartments each composed of a living room, two bed rooms, a prefabricated bathroom, kitchen and toilet.  The exterior wall is made of square cut stone, concrete and glass arranged in the form of a scattered deck of cards.  The untraditional nature, sheer sleek design and the culminating point at the buildings most narrow edge lends the structure its iconic form.
