Kaleidoscopic Interventions

Origami talk in Madrid has got facades turning inside out.  Madrid's new ABC Center of Drawing and Illustration designed by Aranguren & Gallegos Architects, kindly lends itself to being an artistic international reference and cultural symbol for the city.  The new installation to the old factory building in Amaniel Street is a suitable intervention for this historic building, while respecting the old structure, the new addition embodies a healthy expression of a contemporary center with a diverse range of cultural and artistic institutions.

The design is tasteful and appropriately cohesive throughout.  The intricate tangle of irregular triangles position themselves in a kaleidoscopic formation mirroring itself from facade to to the exterior court and continuing to interior surfaces in more transparent treatments.  The patterns are too revery reminiscent of origami offering a very controlled and harmony in a rather chaotic situation.
